I borrowed a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 lens from another photographer. It’s really a good lens for shooting portraits and get the shots you want even at low light situations. And yes, it really isolates your subject from all those distractions at the background. I’m saving up to acquire that lens after my 55-200mm VR lens.

I didn’t quite had a difficult time doing some manual focus with my Nikon D60. Surprisingly, I finally appreciated its rangefinder feature. It’s really a great help in shooting portraits than the lower models. So far I’m not itching for any upgrade with my current DSLR. I’ll just wait after a year or so when the model that would match my skills would finally be in the market.

I’m really finding myself shooting more on portraits. The feel of shooting with a lens for portraiture cheered me up from my recent frustration in photography. Although I do feel that I should still improve in capturing the whole body of the model…heheh

I could honestly say that the only difficulty I had in that photoshoot was the number of photographers per model. Even if I had my place and angle for shooting the subject, other photographers can still get on your way in properly composing your image.

nice shots. that 50mm really is a must have for all photographers– razor sharp at a low price. Very nice bokeh. I used to have one for my canon cam but i sold it when i shifted to Nikon. I’ll buy again that “nifty fifty” again for my D80…
btw, who organized that photoshoot? I wish I was there. been quite a time since i held my camera

@tutubi- Haha, the 50mm is next on my acquisition list. I really love taking portraits than anything else.
@Riz- PP by Adobe Lightroom. I can show you how I did it at the office. It’s a nice program that somehow replaced my Adobe Camera RAW in editing photos.
Cool shots! Lotsa of fun but serious at the same time. Love em!

then after that 50mm, try to buy the inexpensive reflectors and a sturdy tripod. It’s good that lighting’s ok that day. later you’ll enroll in a photography class, lighting fundamentals, portraiture, join a camera club among others…
the usual route of addictive photography hobby besides gearlust
it’s nice you have access to Lightroom, something i want to try someday though I’m biased to learn Aperture
@tutubi- Some people (mostly DPP ones) I know organized it and invited me. I have taken my basic photog class, bought a reflector last month and have this 4ft sony tripod ( hahaha kulang ng height
).
I don’t have mac… Aww no aperture for me…hahaha
Hi Maki
Do you shoot in RAW or JPEG? Did you set the colors that desaturated level on purpose?
One thing a friend of mine who uses Nikon mentioned is that if you were to use RAW and directly edit it in Lightroom or Photoshop, it desaturates and you lose the color data that you originally had prior to editing.

@Mark- I shot the pictures in RAW+JPEG mode to retain the colors for processing them in Lightwroom…On the other hand, I desaturated the photos on purpose.
