First Runway Shoot

Last Wednesday, my fellow blogger and good friend Micamyx invited me to a fashion show at the SMX center in MOA. It was a good opportunity to run my new Canon EOS 1000D and 50mm f/1.8 lens, so I finally drove myself to MOA in the afternoon.




I felt so small upon seeing other cameras of photographers for the runway with those big, long lenses. I saw some people using their kit lens, but then I had this problem with my CPL filter which got stuck to my kit lens…making my shots underexposed so I opted to use the 50mm f/1.8 lens. I finally got a good spot near the front of the runway, but there was this grumpy bouncer who purposely extends arms and shoulders to block our way in shooting the models (A reason why some shots have dark corners. I got a little harassed from him, but the reason behind what he was doing was because someone at my back was being reprimanded for shooting a video of the fashion show (which was illegal. ).

I still managed to shoot a lot of pictures. The Live View function of the camera worked to my advantage that I was able to focus on shots above the tall bouncer’s shoulder. I just noticed that before shooting at Live View, you need to focus on the subject first then press the SET button to activate it and shoot. Shooting at Live View with my camera doesn’t work like a point and shoot camera in such a way that the it works simultaneously while the camera is focusing on the subject with Auto Focus. It only works simultaneously if you set the lens at Manual Focus. Weird but still useful.

I enjoyed watching and shooting in the event. Kids were a scene-stealer during the fashion show. Cute little girls on dresses, running little boys. It actually started with a little girl who got confused of what she really was supposed to do on the runway. It took her quite some time to go back to where she came…until someone from the staff carried her away…LOL.

That little girl stole the show.

All was quite well during the said event and I enjoyed it. I hope to go to another one next year if ever I get the chance to get a pass again.
