My Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens was the first thing I bought before my camera back in October 2008. I love that lens…it’s small, it’s light, it’s fast, and hehe…cheap (kasi poor lang ako eh :p) . It was the lens attached to my camera more than the kit lens. February was the last time I held that lens in it’s good clickity-clackity condition hahaha…Â I remember shooting the Ipenema Gisele Bundchen Collection launch back in February that I felt weird with how it took pictures. Heck, there was a 52-58mm step up ring stuck on the lens because of attaching a 58mm Hoya R72 filter.
I tried removing the stuck step up ring of course, but to my dismay, the thing won’t budge. I was worried that I might damaged the AF motor, so I brought the lens to my refresher at Sir Jo Avila’s studio and asked for help in taking off that ring. Major failure…I surrendered the lens to Canon. Turns out the AF motor was damaged and the whole thing infront of the lens must be replaced. Wow…good thing it was still under warranty, hence I’ll be left with a paperweight..Erm, well it’s not heavy enough for a paperweight but yeah you get what I mean.
I missed the lens so much. My worse time was not having to bring it to the Davao Food Appreciation Tour. Food shots without a prime…huhu.
Around near the end of March, I picked it up at Canon then went home with the souvenir part of the lens. When I mounted the lens at home it was not functioning AF/MF. Bummer, I had to go back again to Canon and have it repaired.
Finally after 2 months without at 50mm, it’s finally back and mounted on my camera. Haha, I could’ve just bought another one due to impatience but I just love that specific lens. No more step up rings for you nifty!
Hehehe
