When I’m bored, I just drive myself to places and shoot. Last Monday, I drove to La Mesa Ecopark just to shoot some flora and fauna and to just kill some time before the color coding suspension ends while I was there. Entrance fee did cost me 50php. There weren’t much blooms when I went there and sadly, they changed the look of the pond. The boats were gone, so I didn’t do any wide angle shots.
What I enjoyed was the small butterfly hatchery. For 30php, you can shoot all the butterflies within that enclosure. I went on a Monday so I got the whole enclosure for myself hahaha…. Might have been a good idea but I’m not really into insects. Upon entering, I got freaked out with the dozens of butterflies that swarmed me.
Butterflies are beautiful creatures, but the dark-colored ones that swarmed me looked more like moths. I was careful not to shoo them away and hit them with my camera. They’re harmful anyway, and after some time they’ll leave you alone…unless you wear sweet-smelling cologne like me. *facepalm*

The butterflies feed on the plants with nectar on bottles. If you have sugar mixed with water or honey, you can feed them on your hand. You can really see how they’re life cycle unfolds in this enclosure. The average lifespan of butterflies is about 2-10 days..some longer

The butterfly hatchery at the La Mesa Ecopark is just small. I haven’t dropped by the butterfly garden in subic but judging from my relatives’ videos there, it’s bigger and they have more species. I think the biggest is the butterfly haven in Bulacan and it’s nice to shoot there because you can capture butterflies on flowers and plants and not like little enclosures with nets. Maybe that would be my assignment on the succeeding months… maybe Subic will come first since I go there occassionally on weekends.
Nice photos! I’ve always wanted to visit that place. Si Carlo nakapunta na diyan. Ako, hindi pa
