Not having the stock lens which gave the comforts of shooting wide enough and long enough from 18-55mm was a disadvantage.
So for others out there who don’t have a 24-70mm lens or an 18-200mm lens…Please please don’t sell you kit lens yet. I myself found it inconvenient in not having a kit lens for a trip since I replaced my third party 2.8 lens with a dedicated infrared body.
I usually consider Stills as my ‘wala-lang-moment’ type of shots, when I play with colors, the patterns, the lines and the depth of field of the picture to emphasize some objects I see wherever I go. I usually just attach my 50mm lens and shoot away because I can play with the aperture to emphasize the subject I take with a blurry and creamy background, which the stock lens of my DSLR can’t really achieve. It’s also my way of getting some discipline and alertness in composing some of my shots. Haha, I wonder if I have already improved since last year…Hmmm.
There..
And to start the sharing, here are some of my still shots using my 50mm lens (nifty) during my trip to Cebu:

Parking Lot
Yellow and Black or Black and Yellow…it is a color combination that gives best visible contrast and not Black and White.

Candle Wax
I usually shoot lit candles, but I shot the candle wax instead when the flames died after raining. They remind me of stalagmites and stalactites.

Bintana at Bentanilya
In Filipino Architecture, these have the purpose of cooling a house. If there’s harsh sunlight coming towards the house, one can close the bintana …yet the air can still seep through the house with the bentanilya.

Pot Lifters
Small statues lifting a pot (sorry no evidence of the plant hahaha
). Ever wonder why the background is bluish-purplish? I shot this using my infrared body with a 50mm.

Fence
A part of a metal fence. Another infrared shot.

Sleeping Cat
A sleeping cat by the door inside one of the places in Fort San Pedro, Cebu City. I’m just blessed to find it sleeping right at the middle of the door! It’s so cute and its fur blends with the colors of the bricks.

Hermit Crab
A hermit Crab I caught at the amazing island of Olango.
I hope you all enjoyed my brief share of shots. I’m very much happy in owning a cheap 50mm f/1.8 lens and I use it a lot than my kit lens. On the other hand, the kit lens is still a necessity if you don’t have other lenses to compensate for the range it can give to you. I had it cleaned, repaired and re-calibrated and I maintain my lenses in good shape in having them serviced every 6 month..even immediately after rugged use at the beach (goes for my ultrawide).
Waw ang cool ng photos! esp yung cat at window…
@Bryan- Thanks. Off all places the cat would sleep! Right at the middle! Hahaha, so cute. ^_^
Great shots! I like the one with teh kitty, and the candle wax, you could try editing it to make it black and white and lowering the brightness for a cave like effect XD
@Jer- Oh thanks
nice set!
Thanks Ed! ^_^
