The terrain of the island was 70% concrete and 30% trail. We started taking our first strides at the legendary Malinta Tunnel, ran through a church, a 50-60 degree 300m incline twice, mile long barracks, more steep inclines, downhills and other scenic places in Corregidor. The trail course during the run surprised me near the end. I thought we were running the final mile on concrete by just going around the island for one last time.

I was pretty satisfied with my new pair of Nike Lunarglides+ during the island run. It wasn’t really the type of pair to survive trail running for a long time, but did a good job in keeping my feet comfortable throughout the 2 1/2 hour island run along with my friends. So far I do feel this is the best pair of running shoes I’ve acquired up to date. I actually have 2 Nike Free pairs that are best for indoor running at the gym, 2 Nike Zoom pairs and a Zoom+ pair that are best for urban runs. Hehehe, I won’t tell the prices anymore but every pair was worth the buy.

Back to the run, there was an option to be fetched by the Trams in Corregidor if you already want to give up when the time allocated for the race is up. Me and my friends however, finished the run and I felt tired, with muscles burning. I was bathing in my sweat, but somehow I felt refreshed on how I was able to make it at the Finish Line.

I felt a runner’s high after the race. It was like surviving a battlefied and I was just filled with confidence that other urban runs will be peanuts compared to the 10-mile run back in Corregidor. :p

After the run, me and my friends just had fun in the island and took a few snaps. We were too exhausted to still be on an afternoon tour around Corregidor. We plan to go back on the island for a short outing and tour. It’s a good place to unwind.

I wonder if this could have been our look if we gave up and had the Tram fetch us during the run.

Final Photo-Ops!

Frequent times during the run I really felt the need to hold my trust Lumix LX3 camera.
It was like going on a fieldtrip while running. The lighting on the landmarks of Corregidor was just perfect that morning and a birds eye view of the shore while running on the hillside was just breath-taking. I just can’t wait to go back there and take serious snaps.
Hi Maki, glad you and your friends enjoyed the race experience. It surely was a welcome respite from your usual staple of Fort/Mckinley/UP runs. It can only get better next year. Nice blog you got here, my first time to visit. Hope to see you at our upcoming runs and races. Cheers!
Hi Sir Luis!
Oh yes, I truly enjoyed the island run and I would like to run again at another place or come back to Corregidor. It’s more exciting to run on trail and also have a scenic view while running.
I’m so hooked into running. I lost 15lbs over the months because of running and I just can’t get enough from it!
Thanks for visiting my blog!
I’ll be blogging about my races too. So far I have pretty good memories of each race.
